Docks and Hubs

Docks and Hubs

There are more peripherals than ever to connect computers to monitors and other devices. Docks and hubs are valuable additions, enhancing the functionality of computers and increasing their compatibility with other educational equipment.

Docks and Hubs

Hubs expand the number of ports on a device. An important addition to modern laptops which have been reduced to USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity ports to minimise their overall size and weight. Hubs typically draw power from the laptop and allow for more devices to be plugged into the given port.

Hubs are plug-and-play and are easy to use. They are always on for connecting and charging other devices and peripherals and expand the power of existing ports on a desktop computer or laptop.

Similarly, to hubs, docking stations allow for additional peripherals to be connected to a device. However, docks also expand the functionality of a portable device or laptop. They often support video output with a variety of types of connectors including those for SD cards, headphones, ethernet and HDMI.
